Song of the Day: Idjut Boys “Going Down”

Song of the Day from the Idjut Boys’ long-awaited full-length debut, Cellar Door

Idjut Boys—the long-standing jetsetting DJ/producer duo of Daniel Tyler and Conrad McConnell—have finally released their debut album, Cellar Door, on independent label Smalltown Supersound Records. Much like their remix/re-edit work (from Paradise Garage obscurities to superstars like Etta James and Phil Collins) and genre-defying DJ sets, the album is an aural adventure, but it mostly allows sumptuous and varied listenability to trump four-on-the-floor nu-disco danceability. “What we’ve tried to do is make an LP, four tracks a side on vinyl,” says Conrad. “You stick it on your stereo, have a cup of coffee and read the paper. When it’s finished you stick the other side on.”

A proper album with a proper sleeve too! Kudos for the fresh cover art.

Album track “Going Down” features minimized beats, crisply strummed Basement Jaxx-inspired acoustic guitars, and plenty of filter effects behind Sally Rodgers’ (A Man Called Adam) vocals. Very chill, very Balearic. Download it via Soundcloud below.
