Song Of The Day: G. Dep “Let’s Get It”

By now you’ve likely viewed at least 10 or more fan videos of Baauer’s “Harlem Shake”.  Even Jimmy Fallon got in on the internet sensation.  However, as known by hip-hop afficianados (and native residents of Harlem), the Harlem Shake is a dance that originated in Harlem in the early 80’s, and made popular in G. Dep’s 2001 video “Let’s Get It.”

G. Dep released his album Child of the Ghetto in 2001.  The single, “Let’s Get It” featuring P. Diddy and Black Rob, reached 80 on Billboard’s Hot 100, but was a club and urban radio hit, reaching number 5 on Billboard’s Rap chart.  At the song’s peak, you would see club goers doing the real Harlem Shake on dancefloors across the U.S.
