Song of the Day: E.T. White “Funky Soul Shake”

ET White

I’ve recently obtained a number of acetates, [original pressings of studio takes on a metal base coated in a substance that appears to be vinyl], recorded by DC’s E.T. White. E.T. was a hard worker and advocate of youth development programs, and as such, replenished openings in his band with young kids he felt had potential. Mr. White cut a number of 45 rpm singles during different stages of the band. One of my favorite 45s is the “Funky Soul Shake.” As is true of many of his releases, you can hear the influence of Archie Bell and the Drells’ “Tighten Up.”
