“Ain’t No More Cane” is a traditional prison work song that has been recorded by Leadbelly, Odetta, and Lyle Lovett, among many others. Bob Dylan and The Band’s version from The Basement Tapes puts a nice chord progression and some harmony behind the tune that make it my favorite. Others are dirgelike or just plain awful (see Ian Gillan).
