Song of the Day: Black Eyed Peas “Joints & Jam (Navy Shade Edit)”

The Black Eyed Peas

Before Will I Am co-opted dance-pop and turned his group into international superstars—complete with embarrassingly overblown Super Bowl halftime showsThe Black Eyed Peas started out as a respectable rap group, turning out albums of inventive alternative hip-hop. The “Joints & Jam” single from their 1998 debut album Behind the Front had a cool, laid back summertime vibe that I could get down with.

Fast-forward 18 or so years and Navy Shade ups the BPMs and runs a nice house groove under the throwback vocals, bringing the song right up to the present day. Free download after liking their Facebook page.
