A recent pickup on 7″ and a long time want. Backyard Construction‘s “I Want Your Lovin” is my idea of perfect soulful dance music. Released in 1980 on a private label that alludes to a full length release that never came, this track toes the line between modern soul and disco in the best way. It’s lo-fi enough to feel real, and the band is tight enough that you don’t mistake them for a garage band full of amateurs. I’m sure these guys have some unreleased master tapes tucked away in their attics somewhere and I hope they are discovered and released some day cause this song crushes it.
