Song of the Day: Air “Playground Love”

Virgin Suicides prom

After about 6 months of doing this post I realized I have done a LOT of chill wave. So I started to think about other songs I liked. One thing a lot of the songs had in common was that they are from French artists. Go figure, the french are good at just about everything, including Music. So I am going to start a short series of posts called “F**k the French” in which I celebrate my favorite French artists and songs.

I had to start with Air, a wonderful duo who have been producing fantastic electronica since 1995. “Playground Love” was produced for Sofia Coppola to use in her 2000 debut film The Virgin Suicides. This song is one of my favorites by them. I am not too sure why—perhaps it is the sax—but this song just makes me sway. And “Playground Love” appears in different versions on both soundtrack albums: The Virgin Suicides: Original Motion Picture Score, written and performed entirely by Air, and The Virgin Suicides: Music From the Motion Picture, which features classic 70s tunes from 10cc, Heart, Styx, The Hollies, and others.
