Song of the Day: Tory Lanez X Janet Jackson “Luv 93” (Hasan Insane Remix)

Part of great DJ’ing is the art of juxtaposition. As a DJ, when making records talk to each other in a set, sublime moments happen with the perfect combination of two songs. This Hasan Insane blend is so ingenious I wish I’d come up with it myself, but I’m grateful I can add it to my toolkit.

In 2016 the Toronto based rapper/singer Tory Lanez released “Luv” which interpolated the 1997 smash “Everyone Falls In Love” by Tanto Metro & Devonte, exposing a new generation to this dancehall classic. Serendipitously, the melody fits perfectly over the chord changes to Janet Jackson‘s sultry “That’s the Way Love Goes” from 1993. I’ve got to get back into the lab to come up with some exclusives that sound this good but I’m locking this one into heavy rotation for now.
