Song of the Day: Prince “Just As Long As We’re Together”

What can be said about Prince that hasn’t already been said? The word ‘genius’ doesn’t even come close. He was producing, arranging, composing, and performing his own music by age 15 and went on to become of of the most prolific, iconic, and masterful musical architects of all time. This gorgeous, mellow-rich groover comes from his debut 1978 LP For You, released on Warner Bros. Recorded between 1977 and 1978, he played all 27 instruments and performed all of the voices with a mature, masterful precision and absolute virtuosity that transcended his young age.

Born in 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, music was Prince‘s life’s calling from a young age. A turbulent home life forced him to make a way for himself and by high school, he was living at his best friend and band mate Andre Cymone‘s family’s house. According to Cymone, the young Prince Rogers Nelson would routinely stay up all night recording his demos with an unrelenting drive. He knew who he was and he knew that he would explode onto the world stage. We all know what followed. We’re hot on the heals of what would have been Prince‘s 60th June 7th birthday. Happy Birthday and sending love and gratitude to one of the greatest musical artists to ever walk the planet!
