Song of the Day: Martha Reeves & The Vandellas “I Can’t Dance To That Music You’re Playin’ (Soul Flip Edit)”

Martha Reeves & The Vandellas Soul Flip EditClassic soul from Martha Reeves & The Vandellas get the Soul Flip edit treatment from the super DJ/producer team-up of Aldo Vanucci and Del Gazeebo. The third release of 2018 on their own Soul Flip imprint, the piano-led “I Can’t Dance To That Music You’re Playin'” gets a respectful dance floor update with a familiar James Brown breakbeat (Lyn Collins’ “Think (About It)” for those paying close attention) making for “cheeky 45 party power.” Originally released on Motown’s Gordy imprint in 1968, “I Can’t Dance To That Music You’re Playin'” wasn’t a big chart hit for the trio but has since become a classic in their deep discography, appearing on numerous collections.

Never a team to release a single-sider, Vanucci and Gazeebo fill the flip side of the vinyl release with an extended version of Sugar Pie Desanto’s 1966 R&B pant swinger “Go Go Power.”
