Song of the Day (America Week): Harvey Mason “Marching in the Street”

Harvey Mason is one of those musicians who has played with everyone. As a studio drummer in LA in the early 70’s and as a member of The Headhunters, Mason played with Herbie Hancock, Erroll Garner, George Shearing, Gerry Mulligan, Bob James and more. The song here is from Mason’s first solo album which was released in 1975, and it’s a funk classic which makes me want to go a 4th of July parade. Players on the track include Chuck Rainey, Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin and Blue Mitchell. Happy 4th!
