Song of the Day: Chaka Khan “Never Miss the Water (AGFA Re-Dux)”

R&B diva Chaka Khan’s 1996 hit “Never Miss the Water” gets an update from bi-coastal funk duo and good friends the All Good Funk Alliance. Rusty B. and Frank Cueto have applied their AGFA studio magic, rebuilding the song by sampling the original “Never Miss the Water” to create a phased-out modern disco dub:

Inspired by Ian Pooley’s “Lite Juice” in which he sampled and filtered this Chaka Khan classic into a wonderful piece of house music. We rebuilt the song using more of the samples and keeping it the original BPM and adding our own flare.

“Never Miss the Water” was originally recorded in 1995 (featuring Me’Shell Ndegeocéllo on bass), and released as a single in 1996, where it hit the US dance chart as Chaka Khan’s sixth number one. It was subsequently included on the 1997 collection Epiphany: The Best of Chaka Khan, Vol. 1.

Lyrics by original songwriters: Charlie Mole and Gerry Deveaux:

Never miss the, never miss the
you never miss the water until is gone
Never miss the, never miss the
you never miss the water until is gone
All is fair in love boy
When the love is shared
Now you’ve been acting for some time
Like you just don’t care
About me
Well my mama used to say
That there would come a day
When fools begin to open up their eyes
You never miss the water
‘Til the well runs dry (’til the well runs dry)
Now I have had enough bad love
So I’m telling you goodbye, bye-bye, bye-bye
Bye- bye, bye-bye (you never miss the water until is gone)
You’ve been taking me for granted
You even made me cry
And sorry just ain’t good enough
Baby not this time
My mama used to say
That there would come a day
When the truth can no longer be denied
You never miss the water
‘Til the well runs dry (’til the well runs dry)
I have had enough bad love
So I’m telling you goodbye, bye-bye, bye-bye
You never miss the water
‘Til the well runs dry (’til the well runs dry)
I have had enough bad love
So I’m telling you goodbye, bye-bye, bye-bye
Hmm, some of them lives where love has gone, maybe never been but it’s time to move on
Now look at here, you never miss the ’til it’s gone yeah
You got step back, ’cause if you don’t care
No need to be there
My heart no longer cries out for you, looking for a love that’s true
Come on, whatcha do, hit me?
C’mon, step back, are you too blind to see
C’mon, step back, you never miss the water ’til it’s gone
Never miss the
Ever miss the water
‘Til the well runs dry (’til the well runs dry)
I have had enough bad love
I’m telling you goodbye, bye-bye, bye-bye
never miss the water
‘Til the well runs dry (dry, dry)
I have had enough bad love
I’m telling you goodbye, bye-bye, bye-bye
you never miss the water until is gone
You never miss the water
You never miss the water, ’til the well runs dry
You never miss the water, ’til it’s gone
You never miss the water
Never ’til the well is dry
Never ’til the well is dry
Some of them lives where love has gone
Bye-bye, bye-bye
You never miss the water ’til it’s gone
You never miss the water
Never ’til the well is dry (never ’til the well is dry)
You never miss the water, ’til it’s gone
You never miss the water
My heart no longer cries out for you, thinking of a love that’s true
You never miss the water
You never miss the water, ’til it’s gone
You never miss the water, ’til it’s gone (you never miss the water)
You never miss the water, ’til it’s gone (you never miss the water)
