Summer 2018 is now in its back stretch, so as we ride out the last few hot, hazy and lazy days, it’s a good time to revisit one of the biggest summer anthems of the 2000’s.

Amerie‘s “Why Don’t We Fall In Love” was the first single from her 2002 debut album All I Have and rocketed her into the public sphere with an urgent, soaring vocal and a knocking bed of sound from producer Rich Harrison. The tune peaked at number twenty-three on the Billboard Hot 100 and cracked the top ten on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Dance Club Play charts.

The video centered around Amerie‘s lithe beauty as she serenades couples making romantic connections cements “Why Don’t We Fall In Love” as an all-time summer banger.

“Why Don’t We Fall In Love” was the introduction of a sonic alchemy between Amerie and Rich Harrison that would be followed up with iconic singles such as “Talkin’ To Me”, “1 Thing” and “Talkin’ About”. Coming off of attention grabbing work with Mary J. Blige, Howard University alum Rich Harrison connected with Georgetown student Amerie via a mutual connection in the D.C. club scene. They linked up in a McDonald’s parking lot so she could hear some of his demos and that’s how Amerie became Harrison‘s muse for the drum forward, go-go derived sound that he was known for in the mid-aughts.
