De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising album was life changing for me. I really loved hip-hop at the time it came out, but this album totally took me by storm and made me the obsessive music nerd that I am today. The rich tapestry of densely woven samples and sounds, the introspective and fun lyrics and the comedy on the cassette tape made me rewind and listen over and over again. The first record I ever put out was a De La Soul remix type thing and I still pop in the original album from time to time for inspiration. Anyway, United States of Audio spent a couple of years making this mix which dropped on Solid Steel this month. It’s been on constant repeat in the ride; I highly suggest digging in and checking this out. Even if you have a passing interest in classic Hip Hop, this stretches beyond and is basically a modern/ retro piece of audio art that you must listen too.
