Single of the Week: Vested Soul “Give Me a Chance”

Vested Soul is the funky new side project of Frank Cueto, the east coast half of All Good Funk Alliance. While a departure from the All Good Funk Alliance sound, Vested Soul is the work of a studio veteran and maintains AGFA’s obsession with an infectious funk groove.

Title track of Vested Soul’s debut EP is “Give Me a Chance,” which chops up vocal lines over a rubbery baseline and percolating percussion, occupying territory somewhere between west coast breaks and house music. Even better is the reprise, with its subtly wobbly synth chords and deep house feel. When our dance floors are safe again, these quality tunes will be at the ready. The Give Me a Chance EP marks the first collaboration between Gated Recordings and Cueto’s own Super Hi-Fi Recordings.
