Single of the Week: Nicole Atkins “Every Single Christmas”

Nicole Atkins Every Single ChristmasNicole Atkins has just released her own rendition of “Every Single Christmas” in digital and super-limited edition picture disc vinyl formats. Atkins actually penned the girl group-inspired chorus a couple of years ago. Her friend and roots rocker JD McPherson added verses and recorded it for his all-original holiday album, SOCKS, but Atkins “always kept hearing it in [her] head as a fast and wild Christmas punk song… like Cyndi Lauper and Brenda Lee, the spirit of the New York Dolls and the Ramones’ “Palisades Park” all rolled up into a National Lampoon’s Christmas movie.”

Working remotely with her band, the core tracks were recorded at the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound in Alabama, augmented with buzzy leads by Hives guitarist Nicholaus Arson, and finally finished with Atkins’ recorded-at-home vocals.
