One for the Records! Phillip and Jaclyn’s Wedding

Wedding Site Veritas

Classic MicrophoneVeritas Winery is a great place to experience the mountains and hills of western Virginia and last Saturday was an excellent day to be there. The sun was shining and the weather was perfect starting the celebration of Phillip and Jaclyn’s wedding with an air of ease. The music of Morwenna Lasko and Jay Pun fit the mountain setting and truly added to the magic moment when the beautiful bride walked with her father to the handsome groom waiting at the end of the aisle. The lighthearted ceremony was presided over by Rev. Bhavani Metro and filled with awe, laughter and tears of joy.

Albums on displayThe reception was no less impressive. Blue Ridge Light Forms did an incredible job setting the room aglow.  This couple loves vinyl and had albums on display and I had 1200s set up instead of my CDJs. All that was left to do was eat, drink and dance… and they did dance. Before we kicked things off, Jaclyn and Phillip had their first dance to “I’ll Be Here In the Morning” by Townes Van Zandt.

Then it happened; I played “Get Up Offa That Thing” by James Brown and it snowballed from there. The first hour was mostly funk and R&B with tracks from Sly and The Family Stone, The Jackson 5, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and Joe Tex. One of my favorite wedding jams “ShotGun” by Junior Walker and the All Stars really worked the floor. The second hour was Hip Hop and Party Breaks with A Tribe Called Quest, Notorious B.I.G. and remixes and re-edits from Pitbull, Wild Cherry and more. The dance floor was jumping and the party was happening. Most weddings I perform at are energetic but this one truly sets the bar. To be honest at the end of the night I wasn’t sure who was more appreciative, the newlyweds or me!
