Key details in the decor and layout made the celebration unique

When describing the event she assembled last month, Terri Eaves of Bash DC noted that Kristin and John’s celebration was slated to be a “non-wedding”. All of the hallmarks of a great wedding were in place – excited loved ones, a glowing couple, fine dining – but key details in the decor and layout made the celebration unique. After enjoying this recap, head over to Documentary Associates Photography for more great photos.

LongView Gallery near Washington’s Convention Center has been a popular room for events since it opened, with its modern, sparse and open design. Bash worked with Beehive Events to create a warm, intimate space in the front hall for the ceremony. Kristin’s walk down the aisle to Louis Armstrong‘s “What A Wonderful World” was through the Gallery’s long hallway and guests awaited her and John on an array of banquettes surrounding the couple. Stevie Wonder‘s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” marked the end of the ceremony and a joyful transition to the rest of the evening.

Dinner featured more of Kristin and John’s personal touches. Kristin’s own mac & cheese recipe was part of the delicious menu prepared by Design Cuisine as was John’s sister’s snicker doodle strawberry shortcake. John’s brewing hobby took center stage at the bar, with a collection of beers that John concocted himself. I’m still thinking about his Belgian triple, mournful that I won’t be able to get it on draft at any of my favorite watering holes.

I came out of Kristin and John’s first dance to Widespread Panic‘s “Old Joe” with some funky classics. I was able to drop Parisian producer Grant Phabao‘s reggae remix of Stevie Wonder‘s “Uptight” as well as a mash-up I love of Matisyahu‘s “Chop ‘Em Down” with The Rolling Stones‘ “Miss You”.

“Good Feeling” set off a spontaneous hora before I could cue up something more fitting.

The Sugar Hill Gang‘s “Rapper’s Delight” really smacked the dancefloor but what really surprised my partner DJ Jayclue was the response I got to Lynyrd Skynrd‘s “Sweet Home Alabama”. It probably helped that I set it up with Kriss Kross‘ “Jump” and “Walk This Way” by Run-DMC.

I dipped into modern pop with “Call Me Maybe”, Carly Rae Jepsen‘s song of the moment, as well as some Nicki Minaj, LMFAO and Flo Rida, whose “Good Feeling” set off a spontaneous hora before I could cue up something more fitting.

I closed out with a mini-set of couples music and oldies. “Tequila” by The Champs was met with a lot of excitement and some furious twisting accompanied Chubby Checker‘s “The Twist”.

Kristin and John ended their LongView Gallery wedding with “Make You Feel My Love” by Ali Munoz, getting the whole room to hug and sway along with them. Jayclue and I high-fived before swiftly packing up and notching another successful night for our crew, the great vendors, our clients and their lovely guests.
