Neville C.: Chhaya and Trang’s wedding reception at Fortune in Seven Corners

What an epic night! I’ve never DJed a Vietnamese or a Cambodian wedding reception and here was a chance to do both at the same time.

Luckily for me the bride and groom provided me with some Vietnamese and Cambodian CD’s which I played mostly during dinner.

Dinner is too light a word to describe the feast the approximately 250 guests were served. I’ve never seen this much food at a wedding reception. Platters and platters of shrimp, lobster, scallops, fish, Chinese vegetables and more kept coming and coming. Props to Fortune Restaurant!

I saw two wedding traditions here which I hadn’t seen before. The first was the photo area set up in the front of the room. As every guest entered the reception they had their picture taken with the bride and groom.

The other tradition was that the entire wedding party went around to every table and thanked each personally as a three man film crew shot the whole thing. At each table one person would grab the mic and toast the couple. Lots of envelopes changed hands as well.

After the feast Chhaya and Trang danced to All 4 One‘s “Beautiful as You” and then Trang and her father danced to “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith.

After that most of the older folks cleared out leaving a heaving dance floor of 20-somethings. There were some excellent break dancers in the crowd and some of the favorites included Montel Jordan “This is How We Do It”, LMFAO “Sexy and I Know It”, Pitbull “International Love”, and Far East Movement “Like a G6.”

The closer was MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This” which brought the break dancers back out. What a party!
