Song of the Day: Gorgon City “Here For You (feat. Laura Welsh)”

UK Garage-infused pop with a deep, minimalist approach

North London producers Kye “Foamo” Gibbon and Matt “RackNRuin” Robson-Scott, better known as Gorgon City, have been slowly divvying out pieces of their full length since December of last year. They started things off hot with their hit single, “Ready For Love” featuring MNEK. After months of releases and remixes, this week, their debut LP, Sirens is finally out. The LP features thirteen tracks with different vocalists and collaborators, including the likes of Jennifer Hudson, Katy B, Kiesza and Laura Welsh, just to name a few. Continuing the UK Garage infused pop song formula that Disclosure helped revitalize, Gorgon City takes a deeper and minimal approach to their sound. All the songs stand on their own as singles. Even Zane Lowe has declared “Go All Night”–a collaboration with equally of-the-moment dance artist, Kiesza, penning the vocals for Jennifer Hudson–as a “Zane Lowe Hottest Record” on BBC Radio.

My personal favorite, however, is “Here For You” featuring English singer Laura Welsh. The subtleties are great and the song writing is solid. Even the video, much like the song, takes the subject of love and gives it a nice twist, peppering a sense of the fantastic with mythological elements. The trials and tribulations of the human race have spanned through the ages and the subtle stylistic nods to those stories are brilliant.
