Song of the Day: Brenda Lee “Rockin Around The Christmas Tree”

“Rockin Around The Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee is one of my favorite holiday songs! Recorded in 1958 when Brenda Lee was only 13 years old, it didn’t became popular until 1960 and finally peaked in 1965 when it hit #3 on the Billboard pop charts. Although it has been covered over 30 times, the original remains the most loved and played versions.

The saxophone, her voice, and the fact that when she sings the lyric “pumpkin pie” it sounds a lot like “f*%kin pie.” I found this out thanks to a radio show I listened to years ago; they had “pumpkin” bleeped out. From then on, all I could hear is “f*%kin pie.” If you’ve never paid close attention, give it another good listen; I promise it will make you laugh and you will not be able to help singing it that way. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!
