Ellen and Matt’s reception at the Shoreham!

Almost of my wedding receptions are fun, but some are REALLY FUN!!! Ellen and Matt’s soiree at the Omni Shoreham Hotel falls into the latter category. It started innocently enough with a very nice cocktail hour in an adjoining ballroom. Guests mingled to the sounds of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Taj Mahal, Madeleine Peyroux, The Temptations, and Joss Stone.

At 6 pm sharp everyone moved into the main ballroom. The wedding party came in to the strains of James Brown’s “Sex Machine” followed by the bride and groom to Flo Rida’s “Club Can’t Handle Me.” The first dance – Eric Clapton’s “Wonderful Tonight” was next immediately followed by the parent dances.

A lovely dinner with jazz accompaniment came next. As dinner wound the down the party wound up. “Billy Jean” lead off the party and the dance floor stayed packed (other than one break for the cake cutting) the rest of the night. Its all a blur after that but I do remember big reactions to Rick James, Robin Thicke, The Backstreet Boys, Nelly, Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder and—due to a large number of Boston Red Sox fans in attendance—”Sweet Caroline” by Neil Diamond.

One special highlight was a Greek wedding dance where the entire ballroom joined in two concentric circles while dollar bills were thrown at the bride. The night closed with Macklemore’s “Can’t Hold Us.”

Kristi Hartig of GLOW Weddings & Events was the wedding planner and had everything on track all night. The Omni Shoreham catering staff was great and the food was excellent. What a night!
