Meistro: Vanessa & Peter at the Chevy Chase Club

Vanessa, Peter, and their nearest and dearest really got down

A little wet weather did not keep Vanessa, Peter, and their nearest and dearest from really getting down this past weekend at the Chevy Chase Club. Originally the dancing portion of the evening was scheduled to be outside on the Club’s spacious patio, but the violent storms in the forecast kept the party inside, which worked out wonderfully.

I had music duties during dinner and covered a lot of ground. Everything from Frank Sinatra, to Gilberto Gil, to Jimmy Buffett was thrown into the mix — in between the several heartfelt toasts from lots of friends and family.

After dinner, folks moved to the dance floor and Vanessa & Peter had a first dance to Frank Sinatra “At Long Last Love,” followed by a dance with Vanessa and her father to Stevie Wonder “Isn’t She Lovely.” I then invited the rest of the party to join them on the dancefloor and did a short set of some classy couple jams by Mel Torme, Bobby Darin, and some more Sinatra (do you see a pattern here?).

After a couple more toasts and the cake-cutting, I went into some wedding classics — Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, and The Contours (which really set the dancefloor ablaze). Then I followed it up with some current pop jams — Carly Rae Jepsen, Martin Solveig, and Rihanna continue to be major crowd pleasers.

Late night, at the groom’s request, I went the reggae route. Classics by Bob Marley, Junior Reed, Yellowman, and Eek-a-Mouse had the groom and his sailing buddies wanting more…
