Megan & Andy’s black tie wedding

Terrific black tie event this past Saturday at Whitehall Manor in Leesburg, VA.
Despite the weather reports for cold and snow (?!), it was a beautiful day. The crispness in the air made it feel more like mid-winter than early spring, but the sun was shining and there were many female guests looking very elegant in (faux, most definitely faux) fur wraps and coats.

It was a lovely and heartfelt ceremony performed by the groom’s father. Although Megan & Andy didn’t ask for a sound system for the ceremony (since the ceremony was very short and a string quartet provided music), we came prepared with our ceremony system just in case. We consulted with Andy’s dad and quickly concluded a lavalier mic would be very helpful.

Dance time quickly kicked into high gear

Dance time started off well and quickly kicked into high gear. Some big songs of the first half of night: Cee-lo Green “Forget You” and Marvin Gaye & Tammy Terrell “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
There was a 10 pm cake cutting that pulled most of the guests into the adjacent State Foyer so we brought the energy level down with a few classics for some slow dances (“Fly Me To The Moon,” “My Baby Just Cares For Me”) and a request for Frankie Valli “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” with its attendant singalong on the chorus started cranking things right back up. And then folks were definitely feeling the late 80s/early 90s hip-hop, pop, and R&B. Some big songs from the second half: Jagged Edge “Let’s Get Married (Remix),” Cameo “Word Up,” Madonna “Into the Groove (Roctakon Remix)” and K7 “Come Baby Come.”
Best blend Dylan didn’t think I was gonna pull off: Nirvana “Smells Like Teen Spirit”/Lady Gaga “Poker Face.”

The mother of the bride thanked me for a great party and was so happy to see a packed floor all night long. She said her dad (the bride’s grandfather) was dancing when he has trouble walking! That’s undoubtedly one of the best compliments I could get at the end of the night.
