Nice little stack of Latin, disco, funk, boogaloo & sampledelic electronica from the May 23rd DC Record Fair. Quite happy to be at this one, as I designed the [from all accounts, very well-received] poster. Got a couple hours to dig through the crates and catch up with friends. Missed the Fort Knox Five DJ set, but I had a previous engagement to attend to.

Lead track from the Lados De La Lupe [Two Sides of La Lupe] LP from 1968.

3. Mongo Santamaria – Esperitu Libre (Beatconductor Rework) [G.A.M.M. Enterprises]
Disco Salsa reworking by Beatconductor on the always on-point G.A.M.M. Enterprises record label out of Stockholm, Sweden.

4. Ricky Williams – Discotheque Soul Pts. 1 and 2 [Citadelle Records]
Killer two-sider funk 45, chockful of percussion breakdowns for the b-boys.

5. Jimmy Graham – A Soul Walk In [Revue Records]
Funky boogaloo two-sider 45. Looking forward to dropping this at Marvin…

6. Sylvestre Mendez – No Vayas A La Rumba [Seeco Records]
Storming Afro-Cuban percussion cut from the 1958 LP, Oriza (Afro-Cuban Rhythms).

7. The Avalanches – A Different Feeling [Album Version] [Modular Recordings]
From the promo-only four-track double 10-inch set featuring four cuts from the Avalanches legendary ‘Since I Left You’ LP from 2000. [Release that follow-up album already.]

8. John Lurie – Bella By Barlight [Enigma Records]
Brooding jazz noir from the 1985 soundtracks LP, ‘Music From The Original Scores: Stranger Than Paradise And The Resurrection Of Albert Ayler.’

9. East Coast – The Rock [Family Records]
DC-based disco 12-inch from 1978 with deep slap bass and nice congas.

10. Skylite – Boogie Butt [Rampart Records]
Great balearic disco cut from 1979. A-side ‘Smile’ is a Dimitri From Paris spin.
